It’s the ultimate fix for Auto Obsessives and their families and friends! If you are passionate about your ride and keen to get your car out on the Taupo motorsport park track, then this is the event for you.
The Track Cruise allows you to enjoy our Circuit with family and friends in the car.
If speed is your thing, then check out Roll racing and Taupo Auto.
Go Karts are also available on Auto Obsession days, but book early to avoid disappointment.

Gates open at 7am with documentation from 7:30am.

This is an alcohol and drug free event, random testing may apply
Bookings are essential and must be made by 4pm the day prior via the online booking process. Walk-ins will NOT be accepted. This does not apply to Go Karts

Taupō Auto
HOW IT WORKS
Taupō Auto is the perfect opportunity to get your car out on track in a safe and controlled environment!
Drivers will be split into groups, considering the different abilities of the drivers and cars: Fast, Medium and beginner.

All groups get three, 17 minute long sessions and run throughout the morning on our National Curcuit. Check below for required safety gear and FAQs.

Roll Racing
HOW IT WORKS
The concept is simple, you’re paired up with another vehicle in the staging lanes. You both start off on a rolling start, and when the flag drops, it’s a race to the finish line. During practice sessions, everyone returns around to race again, however during elimination, only the winner will return until we crown the champion!

Track Cruise
HOW IT WORKS
This is your chance to drive your car around one of the World’s best motorsport circuits with friends and family in the car with you. Enjoy hop-on hop-off laps around our full track 5 Circuit, speed limited up to 120kph.

Passengers
HOW IT WORKS
Taupō Auto: No passengers
Roll Racing: 1 Passenger per car during practice sessions. No passengers allowed for elimination rounds
Track Cruise: 1 per door - 3 passengers max
Passengers must;
- Be a minimum of 148cm tall
- Complete a TMP indemnity form
- Be issued with a TMP passenger wrist band
- Must wear approved safety gear to TMP standard (must be the same as the driver)
Passengers are not permitted for the purpose of creating income, not for financial gain.

Car checks open. All cars must be checked before going on track.

Auto briefing (Compulsory). 9am Auto Sessions begin

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Licences
You must hold a minimum of an NZTA restricted civil car licence or a valid MSNZ competition licence (make sure to bring this with you on the day)
PPE
Taupō Auto and Roll Racing:
Factory Standard Cars with current WOF: Lap & Diagonal Seatbelt - Certified Car Helmet, Ankle to Wrist Clothing, closed-in practical shoes (no steel cap work boots).
Modified vehicles (e.g. Roll Cage, no WOF): Min. 4-point harness, certified forward head restraint, certified car helmet, fire retardant race suite, fire retardant gloves, fire retardant boots.
Track Cruise:
Factory Standard Cars: • Lap & Diagonal Seatbelt and covered in shoes
Modified Vehicles i.e., Roll Cage • Min 4-point harness and covered in shoes.
Important Information
If your car does not have a current WOF but you think it fits into the factory standard car mould you must get prior approval, email a photo of the interior and exterior of your car to grounds@taupomp.co.nz or the modified PPE standards apply.
No oil, fuel or water leaks
No wheelie bars or parachutes
No methanol
Working brake lights
Remove loose items from the car
Ensure seat belts, brakes, brake lights and all other safety equipment are in excellent working order
Tyres
Auto: all tyre types allowed. Tyres must suit the conditions (no slicks in the wet)
Track Cruise: Must be treaded tyres (no slicks) semi slicks are allowed
Roll racing: treaded radial tyres or semi slicks, NO slick/drag slick tyres allowed. NO cross/bias ply tyres.

What tyres can I use?

Can I change the Auto group I am in on the day?
Yes, however only if you want to change to a different skill level, just speak to our Track Controller. If groups aren’t full, then they will discuss this will you.
What if it rains or I can’t attend the day I have booked?
If the weather is unsafe to drive in, we will cancel the day and will send out an email with the rescheduled date
Can I take a passenger?
Yes, but only in the cruise and roll racing practice sessions (one passenger per car allowed in the roll racing) No passengers allowed in the Auto sessions and the roll racing eliminations.
What licence do I need to drive?
Minimum of a valid New Zealand restricted drivers’ licence (either restricted or full licence).
Can I book for another driver?
NO, each driver must book for themselves.
Can I sell/give someone else my booking?
NO, bookings are non-transferable between drivers.
